Monday 8th February 2021. Read Genesis 1:1-19, Psalm 104 and Mark 6:53-56
“And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.” (Genesis 1:18-19)
Our first reading today takes us to the beginning. It tells us of how God, being good, created a good universe and at each step of creation, God himself assessed what he had made and expressed satisfaction.
However, our Gospel passage paints a starkly different reality. It tells of a world full of sick people, people ready to do anything just to get a glimpse of Jesus and to obtain healing.
The question is: What went wrong? How do we reconcile sickness with goodness? As we continue to read from the book of Genesis, we would soon discover how things started falling apart. We would see how sin entered the world, how a perfect world became so imperfect.
It was to an imperfect world that Jesus came. He came that we might return to the status quo. Jesus did not just bring healing to many, he left humanity as a whole with the secret to wholeness. To love God with all our heart, with all our mind and with all our souls and to love our neighbours as ourselves.
The more we accommodate sin in our lives, the more we give room for sicknesses of all sorts. When we tell lies for instance or divert funds meant for public health, we give room for people to suffer from physical and psychological ailments. When we refuse to walk as children of the light, our bad examples create negative ripples affecting the moral choices of our children and those who look up to us.
Just as many tried to touch the garment of Jesus in today’s Gospel reading, let us make efforts to touch Jesus today that He may heal us and make our world a healthier place to live in.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, heal me and free me of all impurities. Amen.
Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. (Monday of the 5th Week in Ordinary Time. Bible Study: Genesis 1:1-19, Psalm 104 and Mark 6:53-56).
